In a bid to address the issue of youth restiveness, federal legislator Dominic Ifeanyichukwu Okafor has taken it upon himself to promote the positive impact of sports in the lives of the youths in his constituency, the Aguata Federal Constituency in Anambra State.
Encouraging the students of his constituency, Okafor emphasized that they have the potential to become world champions if they stay focused and use this era of humble beginnings as a stepping stone towards success.
The five-day Badminton Outreach for all Secondary Schools in Aguata Federal Constituency began on Tuesday at Agbaelu Hall, Akpo. The aim of the event is to promote badminton among the youth.
The participating schools have sent four students each, along with their respective Games Masters and Mistresses, who are being trained in the art of coaching.
Okafor, committed to the development of badminton in the constituency, reiterated the importance of the sport and pledged to construct a world-class badminton court for sustainability.
This initiative is a significant milestone project that will shape the dreams and aspirations of the youth, providing them with a platform to develop their skills and talents.
Leading a professional crew is Oby Edoga Solaja, a renowned badminton expert, Olympian, and recipient of the African Woman in Badminton award for 2019.
The first day of the outreach focused on drills covering badminton basics, identification of key badminton features, court dimensions, demarcations, markings, and various styles of grips.
Solaja extensively discussed the health, security, mental, professional, and economic benefits of badminton, emphasizing the importance of discipline, determination, and consistent practice.
“The secret to success in badminton lies in discipline, determination, and constant practice,” remarked Oby Edoga Solaja. “I commend Hon. Okafor for this initiative, which will have a lasting impact on the lives of these young participants.”
