Apc Cautions Benue Caretaker Committee Against Exceeding Their Mandate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a warning to the party’s Caretaker Committee in Benue State, instructing them to stay within their designated role. The warning came after a closed-door meeting between the National Working Committee (NWC) and the Caretaker Committee at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Last week, the NWC dissolved the factional APC State Working Committee in Benue State, leading to the formation of a 7-man Caretaker Committee with Hon. Benjamin Omale as Chairman and Prof. Ben Angwe as Secretary. However, there have been allegations that the Caretaker Committee has also dissolved other state executives of the party.

The national leadership of the APC expressed their disapproval of these actions and clarified the role of the Caretaker Committee during the meeting. According to Hajia Zainab Ibrahim, the APC Deputy National Women Leader, “The National Working Committee of our great party met with the newly formed caretaker committee to administer the affairs of APC in Benue State for six months. This call was a result of complaints from Benue that the committee has dissolved some local government party executives. This made the NWC summon the seven-man caretaker committee to clearly explain their Terms of Reference.”

The Terms of Reference for the Caretaker Committee, as stated by the APC, include administering the party in Benue State for six months and conducting the forthcoming local government elections. They are also responsible for organizing the logistics for the elections at the local government and ward levels. The APC emphasized that the Caretaker Committee should not exceed their given mandate and refrain from dissolving any committees.

With this warning from the national leadership of the APC, it is expected that the Caretaker Committee will strictly adhere to their terms of reference and work towards the successful administration of the party in Benue State.
