Group Calls For Efcc To Investigate Allegations Of Corruption Involving Bobrisky And Bellos

The Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights (CHSR), a human rights group, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to thoroughly investigate two cases involving prominent individuals. The first case involves Mr. Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, who has been accused of offering a bribe of N15 million to officials of the Nigeria Correctional Center while he was serving a six-month jail term for abusing the country’s currency, the naira. The second case involves former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, who is facing fraud charges.

During a recent press briefing held at the Liberation Center in Ijaiye, Lagos, the President of CHSR, Comrade Alex Omotehinse, commended the Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, for promptly constituting an investigation team to look into the bribery allegations made by a whistleblower named VeryDarkMan. These allegations claim that Bobrisky or someone acting on his behalf offered a financial inducement in exchange for dropping money laundering charges against him.

CHSR is urging the EFCC to conduct an open, sincere, and thorough investigation into both cases. They emphasize the importance of not sweeping these cases under the carpet, as it is crucial for Nigerians to see that the EFCC is committed to combating corruption within its rank and file. Anyone found complicit must face the full weight of the law.
