Nigerian striker Victor Boniface firmly believes that he is more deserving of the prestigious African Footballer of the Year award than his compatriot and fellow Super Eagles player, Ademola Lookman. Boniface, who has been in exceptional form for both his club and country, is confident that his performances throughout the season have set him apart from other contenders, including Lookman.
While Lookman had an outstanding year at his club based in Bergamo, culminating in a record-breaking hat trick in the UEFA Europa League final against unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen, Boniface argues that his achievements for Leverkusen, who secured the German treble, make him a worthy contender for the award. In an interview with Sporty TV, Boniface acknowledges Lookman’s remarkable season but states that when considering what they both accomplished last season, he would choose himself as the African Footballer of the Year. He holds himself in high regard and believes he deserves the recognition.
