The organisers of the annual Above 50 football tournament unveiled a Mini-Olympics Logo during an impressive ceremony held on Sunday at the Ostra Hotel, Alausa, Ikeja. This logo marks the beginning of including other sports alongside football in this year’s competition for former national and international footballers.

Ambassador Dr Edward Olutoke, President of Above 50 Football, performed the unveiling ceremony alongside Olympics gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa-Oparah (MON). He expressed his excitement at the large turnout of people, especially ex-internationals, at the unveiling ceremony. Dr Olutoke, who also doubles as the President of Ikeja Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture, emphasized the importance of this initiative in making old age more enjoyable. He stated that the tournament offers senior citizens the opportunity to exercise, recreate, network, and stay fit. Dr Olutoke assured Nigerians that the event will be action-packed when it officially commences in October this year.

“You know this is an Olympic season all over the world, and for us to come up with this wonderful initiative is commendable,” said Dr Olutoke. “I’m excited with the large turnout of people in this unveiling ceremony, especially the ex-internationals who graced the occasion.”

The original concept of the competition is to make old age enjoyable and something people look forward to. It aims to provide an alternative to being sent to retirement homes after retirement from professional football. Dr Olutoke emphasized the importance of joining a group of people to exercise, network, and learn how to make money after retirement.

“With this, we can pull ourselves together, create a new life for ourselves through connections, so that we don’t just die like chickens,” Dr Olutoke added.
