Communities and farmers applaud government interventions and support

Over the weekend, the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, embarked on a tour of rice plantations in the Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas. The purpose of the visit was to assess the impact of seedlings, fertilizers, and other inputs that were recently provided to the farmers by the state government. The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Toyosi Thomas-Adebayo, and the Director of Personnel Finance and Supply in the Ministry, Mayaki Babadzuko Maadu, accompanied the Governor on the tour. Similar feedback missions will be conducted in Kaiama and other parts of the state to inspect maize and soybean farmlands.

During the tour, Governor AbdulRazaq expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the rice farms and commended the farmers for their dedication to the government’s food security initiatives. The visited rice farms were located in the Lafiagi Ward 1 and 2 of Edu and the Lade, Sakpefu-lade, Sheshi, and Rogun areas of Patigi Local Government. Locals have reported that approximately 20,000 hectares of land are being cultivated for rice production in these areas. AbdulRazaq pledged continued support to farmers, stating that more farmers will receive assistance from the state government.

The government of Kwara State has been actively working to improve food security and boost agricultural productivity. A distribution plan was recently launched to provide seedlings, fertilizers, and other farm inputs to 10,000 farmers across all 16 local governments in the state. Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of timely and high-quality inputs to enhance productivity.

Farmers in the Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas expressed gratitude for the government’s support and highlighted the positive impact it has had on their farming activities. They requested further assistance, such as the fixing of a blocked canal and the extension of farmland, to increase their yields. The farmers also praised the government for its provision of free inputs, which help reduce production costs. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development previously visited other local government areas, including Asa and Ilorin East, to assess the progress made in implementing government interventions.
