IREDE Foundation Advocates for Thorough Workplace Audits to Accommodate Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria
The IREDE Foundation is urging companies across Nigeria to conduct comprehensive audits of their workplace processes in order to create a more inclusive environment for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). By doing so, it is believed that PWDs can contribute meaningfully to the workforce.
In collaboration with the Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation, the IREDE Foundation has recently provided employability skills training to 50 PWDs, equipping them with the necessary leadership and job-ready skills.
During a training program held in Lagos, Oluwaseun Ayodeji, the HR and Operations Lead at the IREDE Foundation, emphasized the organization’s commitment to inspiring actions for young people with disabilities, enabling them to live independent and limitless lives.
Ayodeji highlighted the importance of organizations conducting audits to assess their current state and identify small, actionable changes that can be made to accommodate PWDs in the workspace. It is through these small changes that significant progress towards inclusivity can be achieved.
Upon successful completion of the training and a thorough assessment, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a one-month internship program, providing them with practical and hands-on job experience.
Ayodeji further emphasized the need for the government to enforce and implement laws that require organizations to employ a certain percentage of persons with disabilities. This will ensure that inclusivity is prioritized across various sectors within the nation.
The training program not only encourages organizations to embrace diversity in their workforce but also focuses on equipping PWDs with the skills necessary to thrive and succeed in these environments.
