Grandfather Overcomes Sensory Loss With Granddaughter’S Musical Assistance And Touching Duets

87-year-old John Leonard Tucker may not grasp today’s music, but he surely comprehends the profound impact of music, and he possesses the voice to convey that power. To top it off, he has the wonderful opportunity to share this gift with his granddaughter, Yazzy Tucker.

Miss Tucker, who has admired her grandfather’s voice for as long as she can recollect, considers this a dream come true.

“When I hear Granddad’s voice… it simply feels like the most enchanting sound,” she expressed to The Epoch Times.

The musical duo resides in North Devon, England, where Mr. Tucker dedicated his life to farming, while his granddaughter is now making her own mark as a musician.

Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Tucker has filled his home and community with his marvelous voice. However, as his eyesight has progressively declined over the years, he has become unable to see much, which has been devastating since he can no longer read the words and music he desires to sing.

Miss Tucker acknowledges that it has been quite challenging for her grandfather, who has always been so active. Nevertheless, even though he struggles to adapt, Mr. Tucker consistently makes an effort to attend his granddaughter’s performances, and on occasion, he even joins her on stage to sing.

Having made music with her grandpa for a significant portion of her life, Miss Tucker utilizes music to keep him engaged.

Initially, she started sharing snippets of her singing on social media, and one day, she posted a video of a performance featuring Mr. Tucker.

“I uploaded a video of Granddad,” she explained, “and everyone fell in love with him!”

Encouraged by the positive reception, Miss Tucker began teaching her grandfather new songs, expanding beyond the ones he was accustomed to. She admits that he doesn’t always appreciate the unfamiliar tunes, but since he enjoys singing alongside her, he willingly learns them.

Given Mr. Tucker’s visual impairment, Miss Tucker gradually teaches him, providing him with one line of melody and verse at a time.

The first video the duo uploaded to social media showcased them singing “O Holy Night” and garnered 15,000 views—an incredible achievement at the time. However, as they continued to perform and share their music, their videos reached millions of people.

“I taught him a song by Stephen Sanchez,” Miss Tucker shared. “Whenever I watched the video, I used to close my eyes, and I must have viewed it about a thousand times myself.”

Their enchanting performances even captured the attention of the renowned British supergroup, Coldplay.

Receiving a comment from Coldplay on her video validated Miss Tucker’s belief that prioritizing family doesn’t have to impede her music career.

Miss Tucker acknowledges that gaining popularity on social media has greatly benefited her career, but she emphasizes that spending time with her aging grandparents is what truly drives her.

“I urge anyone reading this,” she said passionately, “if they’re fortunate enough to still have their grandparents, to go and spend time with them, even if it’s just over a cup of tea. It’s so easy to get consumed by our own lives and forget to check in. The most significant lesson I’ve learned from all of this is that I will forever be grateful that I did it all.”
