The people of Idanre in Ondo State are grieving the loss of their revered monarch, Oba (Dr) Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, Arubiefin IV, the Owa and Paramount Ruler of Idanre Kingdom. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has extended his condolences to the community.
Oba Aroloye, who ascended the throne in 1976 and was the oldest first-class Oba in the state, passed away on Wednesday at the remarkable age of 102. Chief Christopher Oluwole Akindolire, the traditional Prime Minister of Idanre, confirmed the monarch’s demise.
While the palace is making preparations for the necessary traditional rites, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, issued a statement expressing the monumental loss felt by the Idanre community, Ondo State, and the Yorubaland as a whole.
Governor Aiyedatiwa hailed the late Oba Aroloye as one of Nigeria’s most respected monarchs during his reign, emphasizing his commitment to peace and harmony. Over his nearly 50-year rule, Oba Aroloye tirelessly promoted communal peace and stability, drawing from his extensive experience in the traditional leadership of Idanreland.
The Governor mourned the loss, remarking, “Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of our beloved Oba Aroloye. His Majesty’s wisdom, leadership, and dedication to community development and peace in Ondo State will be deeply missed.”
He further expressed gratitude for the late monarch’s selfless service, guidance, and unwavering commitment to the development of Idanre and Ondo State. The Governor hopes that Oba Aroloye’s legacy will endure through the lives he touched and the traditions he upheld.
During this difficult time, the royal family and the entire Idanre community are in the thoughts and prayers of the government. May the soul of His Majesty rest in perfect peace.
Additionally, Dr Ayo Akinyelure, a former senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, expressed his condolences, stating that the demise of the first-class monarch is a loss not only to Idanre but also to Ondo State and the entire country.
