Harris And Walz To Engage In First Interview Following Campaign Commencement

After delivering her nomination acceptance speech at the conclusion of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Vice President Kamala Harris is set to participate in her first joint interview with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on August 29th.

The interview, conducted by Dana Bash, CNN’s chief political correspondent and anchor, will take place at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday. Harris and Walz are currently on a bus tour in Georgia, a crucial battleground state in the Electoral College race.

This unscripted exchange will mark Harris’ first interview with the media since President Joe Biden stepped down from the race on July 21st and endorsed her as his successor.

Since launching her campaign just 37 days ago, Harris has been working diligently to define herself and her platform within a limited timeframe, while also aiming to connect with voters beyond the Democratic Party’s base.

Republicans, including Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio), who was Donald Trump’s running mate, have criticized Harris for avoiding extensive interviews with the press and only engaging in brief conversations during campaign travels.

Vance expressed his discontent during an early August campaign event in Wisconsin, where he also criticized the media for their handling of Harris.

Unlike Harris, both Trump and Vance have conducted multiple interviews and press conferences since the Senator became the Republican Party’s nominee at their July convention.

Earlier this month, Harris stated her intention to participate in a sit-down interview before the end of August. The upcoming CNN interview fulfills that promise. Additionally, her campaign announced her active preparation for an interview with her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, scheduled to be hosted by ABC in Philadelphia on September 10th.

In recent proposals, Harris has emphasized her support for abortion access and reproductive rights, gun control, voting rights, immigration reform, border security, middle-class tax cuts, child tax credits, price gouging bans, and affordable housing.

During this interview with Dana Bash, Harris will have the opportunity to expand on her platform as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.
