Nigeria’S National Football Team Fails To Secure Victory Against Rwanda Despite Numerous Shots On Target In The 2025 Afcon Match.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a surprising draw by the Wasps of Rwanda in a tense 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Kigali.

Despite their dominance in the match and having nine shots on target, the Nigerian team failed to score a goal.

Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, the Eagles were constantly denied by an impressive display from Rwanda’s goalkeeper and resolute defense.

Star forwards Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen were brought on in the second half to strengthen Nigeria’s attack, but their efforts were unsuccessful in breaking the deadlock.

Under the guidance of coach Torsten Spittler, Rwanda’s Wasps showed great determination and resilience, frustrating Nigeria’s attempts to score. Despite being under immense pressure throughout the game, the Rwandan side managed to hold off their more experienced opponents and secure a valuable point in their quest for AFCON qualification.

Coach Eguavoen made only one change to the Super Eagles team that defeated Benin 3-0 on Saturday. Alex Iwobi was dropped to the bench and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru took his place.

Despite Victor Osimhen’s performance in scoring one of the goals against the Cheetahs, he was listed among the substitutes while Victor Boniface led the attack. Nigeria dominated the first half, creating several scoring opportunities, but was unfortunate not to find the net.

Ademola Lookman’s goal in the 22nd minute was disallowed due to a foul committed by Boniface. Coach Eguavoen expressed disappointment, stating, “We created a lot of chances, but unfortunately, we couldn’t break the deadlock.”
