A resolution has been reached between eight members of the House of Representatives elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa regarding the outcome of the party’s primary election. The dispute arose following the selection of Aiyedatiwa as the APC candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in the state. However, the aggrieved lawmakers paid a visit to the governor on Tuesday and pledged their support for him in the upcoming election.
The eight caucus members have decided to put the issues surrounding the previous primary election behind them and unite in support of Governor Aiyedatiwa to secure victory in the governorship election. Represented by four of the eight members, including Hon. Timehin Adelegbe (Owo/Ose), Hon. Gboyega Adefarati (Akoko South West/Akoko South East), Hon. Festus Adefiranye (Ile-oluji-Okeigbo/Odigbo), and Hon. Jimi Odimayo (Okitipupa/Irele), the caucus announced their endorsement at the Presidential Lodge of the Government House in Akure, the state capital.
Despite the absence of Hon. Donald Ojogo (Ilaje/Ese-Odo), Hon. Abiola Makinde (Ondo East/Ondo West), Hon. Derin Adesida (Akure South/Akure North), and Hon. Ife Ehindero (Akoko North West/Akoko North East) during the visit, they expressed their support for the Governor. Hon. Adelegbe, speaking on behalf of the group, emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to dispel any doubts about the National Assembly members’ full support for the Governor in the upcoming election.
Furthermore, Adelegbe stated that the caucus has committed to mobilizing grassroots support and votes for Governor Aiyedatiwa to ensure a resounding victory. He commended the people of Ondo State for not participating in the ongoing nationwide protests and praised the Governor’s leadership qualities in engaging various stakeholders to maintain peace in the state.
During his opening remarks, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, the Chairman of the APC in the State, expressed gratitude to the House of Representatives members for their timely declaration of support for the Governor. He believed that this development would foster unity and strengthen the party in Ondo State ahead of the November governorship election.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his appreciation to the lawmakers for their visit and unwavering support, stating that their loyalty to the APC was evident. He emphasized that although he had emerged as the party’s flag bearer, the ballot would bear the APC’s name as a whole, underscoring the collective effort required to secure victory. He acknowledged the lawmakers as leaders and representatives of the people, emphasizing the importance of their support in ensuring the party’s success.
