President Bola Tinubu emphasized yesterday that Africa needed to stop complaining about its challenges and address the issue of tribalism. Speaking at a dinner hosted by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, Tinubu stressed that tribalism had no place in Africa and called for peace, unity, and democracy as the keys to progress and development.
During the dinner, President Tinubu and President Mbasogo signed bilateral agreements in various areas, including security and the oil and gas industry. Tinubu urged African leaders to prioritize peace, stability, and progress and take charge of solving their own problems, rejecting external expectations of conflict and instability.
Highlighting the brain drain and talent loss Africa faces due to poverty, outdated judicial systems, and tribalism, Tinubu emphasized the need to address these issues in order to foster development. He also appealed to international organizations to invest more in African research and development.
“Without peace, you cannot develop,” Tinubu stated. “Our problem is not that we don’t know what to do but how and when to do it. The time is now to take action. We better roll up our sleeves, put on our nicks, and work for peace, stability, and progress.”
Tinubu called for collective action to address conflicts in regions like the Congo Republic and the Sahel. He expressed satisfaction with the growing cooperation between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea and emphasized the importance of peace, stability, and democracy for Africa’s progress.
President Mbasogo expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for accepting his invitation and highlighted the strong relations between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea. He praised Nigerias’ experience in agriculture, trade, tourism, and economic development and called for an exchange of experiences between the two countries. Mbasogo also stressed the need for African solidarity, stronger regional and international cooperation, and advocated for greater African representation on the global stage.
