Lagos State Lotteries And Gaming Authority Enhances Partnership With Uk Gambling Commission

The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) recently embarked on a working visit to the United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) in order to align its gaming regulations with global best practices. The purpose of the visit was to gain a deeper understanding of regulatory operations and establish a bilateral collaboration for information sharing and reciprocity.

Leading the delegation was Mr. Bashir Are, the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, accompanied by Mr. Samuel Rowland, Head of Operations and Compliance, and Mr. Faruq Hassan, Manager of Strategy and Global Engagements.

During their visit, the delegation thoroughly examined the corporate governance framework of the UKGC, including the responsibilities and procedures that ensure efficient operation. They also assessed the gambling regulations of the UK and studied the organizational structure of the UKGC, which is widely recognized as one of the most advanced regulatory bodies in the world. The delegation also explored emerging trends and technologies in order to understand the factors that have contributed to the UKGC’s leadership in gaming regulation.

One of the focal points of the visit was responsible gambling. The LSLGA team aimed to gain insights into the responsible gambling processes and regulatory policies implemented by the UKGC.

During their time at the UKGC, the LSLGA team initiated frameworks for reciprocity arrangements, information sharing, and collaboration between the two regulatory bodies. This partnership is expected to enhance regulatory operations, strengthen enforcement efforts, and promote the adoption of best practices in gaming regulation.

The UKGC team that welcomed the LSLGA delegation consisted of Mr. Jamie Wall, Senior Manager of International Regulatory Partnerships, Mr. Ian Angus, Director of Policy, Mr. Rab Grewal, Senior Manager of Market and Regulatory Insights, and Consumer Policy Managers Katherine Wilson and Katherine Jackson. Beth Potter, Enforcement Manager, also participated in the discussions and presentations held during the visit.

Mr. Bashir Are expressed confidence about the visit, stating, “Our engagement with the UK Gambling Commission marks a significant step in our efforts to elevate gaming regulation standards in Lagos State to match global benchmarks. This collaboration will undoubtedly contribute to our mission of ensuring a responsible and well-regulated gaming environment.”

This working visit strongly demonstrates the LSLGA’s commitment to adopting international best practices and fostering collaborations that enhance the regulatory landscape of gaming in Lagos State, aligning it with global standards.
