Famed dirt racing driver Scott Bloomquist, a beloved figure in the racing community, tragically lost his life at the age of 60 in a plane crash near his family home in Tennessee.

Scott Bloomquist was widely revered as a remarkable talent and cherished friend by many, including his mother Georgie, as expressed by Reid Millard:

“Scott Bloomquist was a great friend of mine, as well as many others in the Dirt Late Model and racing community.”

Tributes began pouring in from drivers and racing experts, who took to social media to express their sorrow. Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart paid his respects, describing Bloomquist as a one-of-a-kind individual. Stewart’s words resonated with the multitude of emotions shared by those who admired Bloomquist:

“What he could do behind the wheel of a racecar was matched by the ingenuity he put into building his racecars. He was a force on and off the track, with a larger-than-life personality and an extensive list of accomplishments. His presence enriched the world of dirt racing, and he will be greatly missed.”

While racing was Bloomquist’s foremost passion, he possessed an additional skill set inherited from his pilot father – flying. Apart from his flying pursuits, he also achieved phenomenal success as a professional racer. Beginning his career in 1980, Bloomquist ultimately became a three-time champion of the Lucas Oil Late Model, triumphed in 33 World of Outlaws Late Model races, secured nine national championships across various touring series, and celebrated over 600 victories.

Bloomquist’s automotive expertise extended beyond racing itself. He boasted an exceptional aptitude for dissecting and reassembling vehicles.

Although Bloomquist faced numerous injuries throughout his career, he persevered and garnered immense respect within the racing industry. His induction into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2002 solidified his legendary status, acknowledging his groundbreaking achievements and innovations within the industry.

Bloomquist’s profound impact extended beyond his on-track accomplishments; he played a pivotal role in the development of racetracks and chassis, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. His untimely passing leaves a void that will be felt by all who appreciated his passion for racing and his boundless creativity.

In 2020, Bloomquist clinched victory at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Pennsylvania. Moreover, he had exciting prospects awaiting his participation in the upcoming World 100 at Eldora Speedway next month.
