Renowned Racer Successfully Discharged From The Hospital Following A Devastating Accident.

Renowned National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) legend John Force has been discharged from the hospital, 30 days after a serious accident left him with a severe traumatic brain injury.

Force, aged 75, was admitted to the hospital in Richmond, Virginia on June 23, following a fiery crash at the Virginia Nationals. His NHRA funny car suffered a catastrophic engine failure at the finish line, resulting in a collision with a concrete guard wall at a staggering speed of 302 mph.

After being rescued, Force was found to be conscious and able to converse. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he required heavy sedation and was subsequently airlifted to a local medical facility.

Earlier this week, Force was transferred from the Richmond hospital to the prestigious Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona for further rehabilitation. According to his team’s official statement, the 16-time Funny Car champion has now been discharged and will continue his recuperation through outpatient therapy closer to his home in Yorba Linda, California.

The subsequent phase of Force’s recovery process will entail speech therapy as well as occupational and physical therapy (OTPT), aimed at addressing any remaining short-term memory and cognitive issues, as mentioned in the statement.

One of Force’s daughters, Brittany Force, shared heartwarming photos on social media showing her father smiling and giving a thumbs-up gesture while surrounded by his family.

“Peace out, Phoenix! After 30 long days, my dad is finally heading home, where we will continue his outpatient therapy. This journey towards recovery will undoubtedly be a collective effort for our family!” wrote Brittany Force.

Force and his family have been leading figures in the world of drag racing for several decades. Alongside his impressive record of 16 NHRA Funny Car championships as a driver, Force has also earned 22 additional championships as a car owner.

Notably, Force’s daughters Ashley Force Hood, Brittany Force, and Courtney Force have all actively participated in NHRA drag racing competitions. Despite his injuries, the veteran racer has maintained his passion for the sport and recently secured his second victory of 2024 at the NHRA New England Nationals on June 2.
