Republican Senator JD Vance, who is the vice presidential nominee, expressed his willingness to engage in a debate with the Democratic vice presidential nominee once their official choice is made. Speaking in Philadelphia on August 6, the former running mate of President Donald Trump stated that he is currently in a holding pattern, waiting for the Democrats to finalize their pick for vice president. Vance referred to the recent selection of Kamala Harris to replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee, stating, “The Democrats have shown a willingness to pull a little switcheroo’ on us.” He further added, “So I don’t even know if we’re actually going to get Tim Walz as an opponent.”
Vance mentioned that he is eagerly waiting to observe the developments at the Democratic National Convention scheduled to take place from August 19 to 22 in Chicago. These remarks by Vance were made just hours after Harris announced Tim Walz as her running mate to compete against the Trump-Vance ticket.
The Epoch Times has reached out to the Democratic National Committee and the Harris campaign for comment.
Vance emphasized that until Walz is certified by the Democrats, their focus will remain on campaigning against Kamala Harris, as she is perceived as the problem and the one vying for the position of the United States’ President. However, Vance also highlighted that Harris has not actively pursued the job, as she has not given any news media interviews since becoming the heir apparent for the presidency.
Biden withdrew from the race on July 21 and endorsed his vice president. This decision came less than a month after Biden’s challenging debate with Trump on June 27 in Atlanta, which led to numerous calls for Biden to withdraw from the 2024 campaign.
Trump suggested a counter-proposal for a debate between him and Harris, scheduled for September 4 at a yet-to-be-announced location in Pennsylvania, to be hosted by Fox News. He stated that the rules would be similar to the ones employed in his debate with Biden, but with a full arena audience, in contrast to CNN’s debate that took place in an empty TV studio.
