The second edition of the Chief Gbolahan Odele age group tennis tournament, which commenced on Monday, August 19, will conclude on Saturday, August 24 in Lagos.
The organizers were pleasantly surprised by the late surge in entries, exceeding their expectations and making the event even bigger than the first edition held in GRA, Ikeja.
Badejo Sports, under the leadership of Coach Dele Badejo, is responsible for organizing the tournament, which is taking place at the Adejumo Tennis Sports Complex in Egbeda, Lagos.
Coach Badejo expressed how challenging it was for the organizing team to cope with the last-minute influx of entries for this catch-them-young event.
“We had to delay the draw to accommodate more kids across the various age categories of the event. We are delighted with the overwhelming response and the remarkable standard demonstrated so far,” said Coach Badejo.
The tournament is open to boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 16, including the U-12, U-14, and U-16 age groups for both male and female participants.
Chief Gbolahan Odele, the sponsor of the tournament, expressed his joy at seeing the enthusiastic young players’ smiles as they participate in the competition.
“In tournaments like this, winning is not the ultimate goal. Some of the players will learn valuable lessons and improve through exposure. I am pleased with the turnout and the overall atmosphere,” said Chief Odele.
The final, scheduled for Saturday, is expected to be graced by top dignitaries and avid tennis enthusiasts.
