Following the Super Eagles’ impressive 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo on Saturday, Governor Pastor Umoh Eno continues to receive praise for the success of the state’s women’s football team, Ibom Angels, as they secure a place in the top tier of the Nigeria Women’s league.
On Sunday, in Calabar, Ibom Angels secured a crucial 2-0 win over Osun Babes, guaranteeing their promotion.
After facing relegation last season, Ibom Angels entered the Calabar zonal playoff, alongside 19 other teams, with only two promotion slots available.
Competing in Group B1, Ibom Angels emerged victorious in all four of their matches, culminating in the Sunday triumph over Osun Babes, who led Group A2.
Reacting swiftly, Sir Monday Uko, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports in Akwa Ibom State, stated: “This achievement is all thanks to the Governor. Nowhere else in this country will you see a governor supporting four teams, but in Akwa Ibom, that’s what we have.”
Sir Monday Uko continued, “Akwa Utd, Dakkadda, Ibom Youth, and Ibom Angels are well-funded and fully supported, and the evidence is the exceptional results we are witnessing today.”
The delighted coach, Edwin Okon, supported the Commissioner’s statement, saying, “We lacked nothing in Calabar, and that allowed us to fully focus on our objective. I extend my gratitude to His Excellency for creating such a conducive environment.”
Coach Edwin Okon also expressed his appreciation to the sports commissioner and his players for bringing joy to the people of Akwa Ibom.
