The Liberal party experienced a noticeable increase in donations during the second quarter of this year, marking the sole upward trend among all federal parties. However, the Conservatives maintain their dominance in terms of fundraising.
Elections Canada recently released the financial returns of the political parties for the period from April to June 2021.
The Liberals managed to raise nearly $3.8 million in the second quarter, representing a significant increase compared to the approximately $3.1 million raised in the first quarter.
It should be noted that most of these donations were received prior to the Liberal party’s unexpected loss in a long-held Toronto riding in late June, therefore its impact on future fundraising remains unclear.
The Conservative party, despite experiencing a decline, continues to outshine all other parties combined in terms of fundraising. Their donations dropped from nearly $10.7 million during the initial three months of the year to just over $9.8 million in the second quarter.
In the same period, the New Democratic Party (NDP) raised approximately $1.3 million, showing a decrease of about $55,000 compared to the previous quarter. Meanwhile, the Bloc Québécois received just under $322,000 in donations, which is approximately $21,000 less than the previous quarter.
