A peaceful nationwide protest is currently underway in several states across the country, but Kebbi state remains unaffected by any protest activities. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that all shops, public and private offices, schools, banks, and markets in the city are operating smoothly and without any disruptions. Despite the absence of protests, there is a noticeable presence of security personnel patrolling the major streets, roundabouts, government institutions, banks, and major parks.
In Birnin Kebbi and Kalgo Local Government Areas respectively, a team of police operatives is stationed at all main entry and exit gates. Additionally, members of the Vigilance Group of Nigeria (VGN) are stationed at different junctions along major streets to complement the efforts of other security agencies. However, the fear of potential protests and the possibility of them being hijacked by hoodlums have led to a decrease in the number of buses and passengers at the Race Course motor park.
Despite this, a few commercial and private vehicles are still plying major roads in areas such as Haliru Abdu, Sir Yahaya, and AP 2 motor parks in Birnin Kebbi. Meanwhile, students of Umaru Waziri Polytechnic in Birnin Kebbi are continuing with their second-semester exams without any disruptions. Alhaji Ahmad Idris, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Nasir Idris, attributes the absence of protests to the significant developmental achievements made by the governor within his one year in office.
Under Governor Idris’s leadership, Kebbi state has witnessed unprecedented progress in various sectors including education, agriculture, health, social services, and infrastructure. The people of Kebbi have shown confidence, high hopes, and expectations for Governor Idris, which is why the state remains calm without any protests. The governor continues to urge the youth to remain calm and peaceful as more democracy dividends are in progress and will be delivered within a short period of time.
