“The Lizard Y El Sol: A Family-Friendly Production Takes Place In Chicago Parks”

CHICAGO – Whether a theatrical production takes place indoors or outdoors, a stage is usually required. However, “The Lizard Y El Sol” breaks the norm, providing a delightful treat for children under 5 years old. This unique performance takes place in a landscape venue, creating an immersive experience for the audience.

This incredible play is presented for free in Chicago parks, offering an interactive experience that actively engages children in the fable and the actions of the characters.

The story revolves around the disappearance of the sun and the desperate search undertaken by various animals. Despite their efforts, the sun remains lost. However, one persistent little lizard refuses to give up, becoming the hero of the story and embodying the moral lesson of perseverance.

In addition to interacting with the talented actors, including Osiris Pinky Cuen, Emmanuel Ramirez, Lucia Mier y Teran Romero, and the beloved Jean Claudio as “The Lizard,” the children also have the opportunity to take part in a Maypole dance. They joyfully hop, skip, and dance while wrapping ribbons around the pole. The colorful and adorable puppet representations of the animals also captivate the young audience.

This play is a retelling of a beloved Mexican folktale incorporating interactive storytelling, vibrant puppets, and traditional Mexican music and dance. The brave little lizard’s quest to find and restore the sunlight completely captivates the young viewers.

During the show I attended at Haas Park, the children squealed with delight from start to finish. I overheard a little girl asking her mother for a lizard puppet, while a boy confidently declared his desire for a pet lizard instead of a dog.

Overall, “The Lizard Y El Sol” is an extraordinary way to spark a young child’s interest in theater and storytelling.
