In a bid to support Uganda in the development of its emerging oil and gas industry, the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) has pledged its commitment towards enhancing human capacity development initiatives.
The Chairman of PETAN, Engr. Wole Ogunsanya, made this commitment during his keynote address at the second annual Oil and Gas Skills Expo organized by the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) at Kyambogo University.
Ogunsanya emphasized the importance of continuous learning and up-skilling in the rapidly evolving oil and gas sector. He called for investments in training programs that equip individuals with the necessary skills to excel in the industry.
According to Ogunsanya, investing in structured training programs can be achieved by strategically allocating resources towards the development of a diverse range of skills among participants. One effective approach is to collaborate with educational institutions and industry experts to design tailored training courses that address the specific needs of the workforce.
He also highlighted the importance of mentorship programs, on-the-job training initiatives, internship opportunities, and continuous learning platforms in helping upcoming professionals enhance their expertise and stay updated with industry advancements.
PETAN, with its expertise in offering technical oilfield services across the entire value chain of the oil and gas industry, has thirteen technology interest groups (TIGs) that run training programs in various areas such as marine, health, safety and environment, engineering, fabrication and construction, automations, well engineering, and geological/geophysical, among others.
Recognizing the need to foster a culture of learning and professional development, PETAN is ready to support Uganda through training and human capacity development opportunities under its existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ugandan National Oil Company (UNOC). This partnership aims to deepen local content practices in Uganda’s oil and gas industry and its associated sectors.
