The Regulatory Body Has Urged These Companies To Provide Clear And Comprehensive Information To Consumers About Their Pricing Structures. This Directive Aims To Ensure That Customers Are Able To Make Informed Decisions And Have A Better Understanding Of The Costs Associated With Their Communication Services. By Promoting Transparency, The Ncc Aims To Foster Trust And Improve The Overall Experience For Telecom Users.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a directive to telecommunications operators to simplify their tariff plans, bundles, and promotional activities.

The NCC’s directive, titled “Guidance on the Simplification of Tariffs in the Nigerian Communications Sector,” was issued on July 29, 2024. Its purpose is to provide subscribers with clear, easy-to-understand information about the cost of voice, short messaging service (SMS), and data services.

In order to comply with the directive, Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are required to publish a comprehensive table that showcases the features of their tariff plans and bundle offers. This table should include all the necessary details for subscribers to make informed decisions, such as pricing information for add-ons, opt-in and opt-out processes, terms and conditions for renewal, and rollover policies.

The NCC’s initiative to simplify tariff plans and bundles is the result of extensive consultations with industry stakeholders, including MNOs, as well as in-depth analysis of consumer preferences and expectations.

The objectives of these simplification guidelines are to reduce the complexity of tariff plans and bundles, promote transparency and fairness in promotional elements, safeguard consumer interests by providing clear and understandable tariff information, and foster fair competition among licensees by standardizing tariff structures.
