10 Individuals Arrested For Public Display Of Russian Flags In Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command announced on Wednesday that it has apprehended ten individuals who participated in a protest and displayed Russian flags. The Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Usman, made this known during a press conference in Gombe.

According to Abdullahi, the act of displaying foreign flags, particularly the Russian flag, during the protest is seen as a disrespectful gesture towards the national symbol. Consequently, the protesters have been charged with treasonable felony and other related offenses.

The display of Russian flags by some protestors on Monday is viewed as a severe offense that not only disrespects our national symbols but also amounts to treasonable felony. Currently, ten individuals have been arrested for this act involving the Russian flags,” he stated.

Moreover, the police reported that the number of suspects in their custody has increased to 111. Giving a breakdown, nine individuals were detained for their involvement in violent protests and attacks on policemen, while 92 suspects were apprehended for alleged vandalism and looting of both public and private property.

It is worth noting that, to this point, there have been no reported casualties since the start of the protest in Gombe State.
