The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stating that his chances of winning the 2027 presidency in Nigeria are inconsequential.
The PDP responded to Kwankwaso’s claim that the party is dead and burdened with crisis, saying that his prediction of winning the 2027 presidential election would only be possible if he takes control of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the platform on which he contested the 2023 presidential election.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, issued a statement on Sunday, advising Kwankwaso to first establish himself within the NNPP before contemplating a 2027 presidency.
It is noteworthy that Kwankwaso is currently entangled in a power struggle with the founder of the NNPP, Aniebonam, over control of the party.
The PDP finds it unimaginable that Kwankwaso, with his one state background, would claim that a party boasting 13 governors, numerous Senators, House of Representatives members, control over several states’ Assemblies, and a formidable presence in all Local Government Areas and wards nationwide, is dead.
Moreover, Kwankwaso has demonstrated extreme selfishness and self-centeredness, which raises doubts about his leadership abilities.
The PDP expressed disappointment that while Nigerians are condemning the country’s excruciating hardship resulting from anti-people policies implemented by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, Kwankwaso’s sole focus is his selfish dream of becoming president.
The party reminded the former governor that millions of Nigerians are losing their livelihoods daily, with the national currency, the Naira, falling to over N1,600 to a dollar and an inflation rate surpassing 34 percent. Additionally, the price of petrol has increased to over N1,200 in various parts of the country.
PDP emphasized that whatever political relevance Kwankwaso believes he has achieved was only possible when he was a member of the PDP.
