Anchor University Lagos has launched an investigation into allegations of sexual assault made by a female student, Evangel Ganiyu (@draganaismother), on her social media account.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday in one of the female halls of the faith-based institution. An unskilled worker, employed by a contractor, was found partially undressed in the student’s room.
The student claims to have woken up and discovered the individual there, which prompted immediate action from university staff. Despite the academic session being on break, various holiday programs, including those for trainee ICAN students and summer school students, had just concluded.
Following the incident, the student was questioned by the porters, hostel supervisor, and security team. Hostel Supervisor Grace Abodunde reported the incident to Vice-Chancellor Samuel Oye Bandele.
During their conversation, the student’s responses were deemed inconsistent and confused, raising concerns about her credibility, as stated by the school.
The Vice-Chancellor attempted to gather more information but found the student’s demeanor perplexing. The university emphasized that the worker involved is not a member of its staff, ruling out any potential cover-up. The Vice-Chancellor has stated that the case will be reported to the police after the university’s internal investigation.
