Players in Anambra State are paying their respects to the late former Chairman, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, by wearing black armbands.
The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) has made it mandatory for all players participating in the Babatem/Anambra FA All Stars Football Competition to wear black armbands.
Dr. Ubah, who served as the Chairman of ANSFA for four years, passed away at the age of 52 in London.
He was also the owner of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, which was formerly known as NPFL and later NNL side.
ANSFA has announced its plan to show further respect to its late former Chairman during the remaining matches of the Babatem/Anambra State FA All Stars Tournament, which is currently in the group stage.
In a statement by Mr Ralph Chidozie George, a board member and Head of the Media Committee of the FA, it was mentioned, “We will continue to mourn our late former Chairman, Senator Ubah, and players will wear black armbands throughout the remaining games of the Babatem All Stars Tournament.”
Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, also known as General, the Chairman of ANSFA, expressed his condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with his family. I have spoken to his Wife and many stakeholders of the game in our State, and everyone is in deep mourning. Therefore, we will do everything to honor him.”
The family of Senator Ubah has assured the association of keeping them informed about the funeral arrangements, and ANSFA has pledged to participate in honoring a man who was one of the greatest football philanthropists in the state.
In addition to the players wearing black armbands in the remaining matches, it has been agreed that a minute of silence will be observed in the matches scheduled for this weekend, as mentioned by General Chikelue.
