Dodgers Expand Their Roster Further By Adding Pitcher Flaherty And Outfielder Kiermaier

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a significant move just minutes before the Major League Baseball trade deadline. They have successfully acquired ace right-hander Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers, along with outfielder Kevin Kiermaier from the Toronto Blue Jays.

According to FanSided, the Dodgers will be sending prospects Thayron Liranzo, 21, and Trey Sweeney, 24, to the Tigers as part of their deal for Flaherty. As for Kiermaier, the Dodgers will be trading veteran left-hander Ryan Yarbrough to the Blue Jays. The exact details of each trade are yet to be disclosed.

The addition of Flaherty, who is currently 28 years old, is a much-needed boost for the Los Angeles starting rotation that has been plagued by injuries. Flaherty has had an impressive season so far, with a record of 7-5 and a stellar 2.95 earned-run average through 18 starts. He has amassed an impressive 133 strikeouts while allowing just 19 walks in 106 2/3 innings. Notably, Flaherty is a product of Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles.

This is not the first time Flaherty has been traded at the deadline. Last summer, the St. Louis Cardinals sent him to the contending Baltimore Orioles. In December, Flaherty signed a one-year, $14 million contract with the Detroit Tigers.

As for Kiermaier, who at 34 years old was in his second season with the Blue Jays, he has had a challenging year offensively. Batting just .195 in 81 games, he has managed to hit only four home runs and drive in 18 runs. However, Kiermaier boasts an impressive resume, having won four Gold Glove awards throughout his career. In a total of 1,124 games, he has a career batting average of .246 with 94 home runs, 370 RBIs, and 131 stolen bases.

Ryan Yarbrough, the 32-year-old left-hander, will now join the Blue Jays after being traded by the Dodgers. This season, Yarbrough has appeared in 32 relief appearances, posting a 4.30 ERA with 39 strikeouts and 25 walks over a span of 67 1/3 innings pitched. Overall, throughout his career with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Kansas City Royals, and now the Dodgers, Yarbrough has achieved a record of 52-40 with three saves and a 4.30 ERA in 184 games, with 68 starts.
