Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton, aged 26, has tragically passed away. The school announced his untimely death on Saturday, withholding the cause.
Overton played a significant role in Clemson’s triumphs, aiding the team in winning national championships in both 2016 and 2018. Throughout his four seasons at the school (2016-2019), he recorded impressive statistics, with 52 receptions for 777 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Clemson Football program expressed their grief on Twitter, writing, “Clemson Football and the entire Clemson Family mourns the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
In addition to his collegiate career, Overton briefly pursued professional football opportunities. He had stints with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL, as well as the Vienna Vikings of the European Football League. Most recently, he spent two seasons with the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL before being selected by the Memphis Showboats in the UFL dispersal draft this year.
