The University of Southern California has announced that Miller Moss will be the starting quarterback for the upcoming 2024 football season, as confirmed by Coach Lincoln Riley on Monday, August 19th.
Moss, who has been a backup quarterback for the Trojans for the past three years, is now stepping into the spotlight in Los Angeles. He has spent the last two seasons supporting Caleb Williams, the recipient of the 2022 Heisman Trophy, who was selected as the first overall pick by the Chicago Bears in this year’s NFL draft.
During the limited action he saw in five games last year, Moss showcased his skills by completing 46 of 65 pass attempts, amassing 681 yards and achieving seven touchdowns, with only one interception.
However, it was in the Holiday Bowl that Moss truly shined. With Williams preparing for the draft, Moss took charge and delivered an exceptional performance. He completed 23 out of 33 passes, totaling 372 yards, six touchdowns, and just one interception, leading the Trojans to a resounding 42-28 victory over Louisville in San Diego.
Moss faced tough competition for the starting position from transfer student Jayden Maiava. Last year, Maiava played in all 14 games for Nevada-Las Vegas, completing 63.5 percent of his throws for 3,085 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
The Trojans, who are preparing for their first season in the Big Ten Conference, will kick off their schedule on September 1st with a nonconference game against LSU in Las Vegas. According to the Big Ten preseason media poll, USC was placed sixth in the now-expanded 18-team conference.
