Trinidadian-born rapper, singer, and songwriter, Nicki Minaj has voiced her disapproval of Jay-Z’s decision to select Kendrick Lamar as the headline act for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, instead of her former record label boss, Lil Wayne.
New Telegraph reports that the National Football League, Apple Music, and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation recently announced Lamar as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans.
In the wake of this announcement, many fans have criticized Jay-Z, who was responsible for the selection, for overlooking Lil Wayne in favor of Lamar.
Taking to her X page on Monday, Nicki Minaj expressed her disappointment in Jay-Z for denying Lil Wayne the opportunity he rightfully deserves in the music industry. She accused Jay-Z of snubbing Lil Wayne due to personal grudges against Birdman, Drake, and herself. She questioned Jay-Z’s loyalty and referred to Lil Wayne as the “Greatest of All Time.” She concluded her statement by asking the people of New Orleans, “What’s good?!”
Minaj also pointed out that Eminem insisted on bringing out 50 Cent, a white artist, during his performance at the Super Bowl. She viewed this as a disheartening contrast and criticized Jay-Z’s decision-making.
In addition, Nicki Minaj emphasized Lil Wayne’s significant contributions to the hip-hop world, highlighting how he paved the way for artists like herself and Drake. She credited Lil Wayne with elevating their careers and acknowledged his talent and grace.
Minaj’s comments come amidst ongoing discussions about the selection process for the Super Bowl halftime show and the representation of different artists within the industry.
