The Nigerian team secured their place in the Round of 16 at the FIFA U20 Womens World Cup with a convincing victory against Venezuela in Cali on Saturday night.
In the 16th minute, Amina Bello skillfully converted a cut-back from the talented Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, giving Nigeria the lead with the first goal of the match. Okwuchukwu then stepped up herself and scored a powerful header from a corner kick in the 28th minute, doubling Nigeria’s advantage to 2-0.
Just before the end of the first half, Okwuchukwu once again showcased her skills by assisting Flourish Sabastine, who confidently converted the chance, extending Nigeria’s lead and putting the game out of reach for Venezuela.
In the dying moments of the match, substitute Joy Igbokwe further solidified Nigeria’s victory by scoring the fourth goal in added time.
This victory earned the Falconets six points and a goal difference of plus three in their group D campaign, cementing their place in the Round of 16. Their next match will take place in Bogota on Thursday.
