The Nigerian U20 women’s football team secured a place in the Round of 16 at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup with an impressive performance against Venezuela in Cali. Four goals from Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, Flourish Sabastine, and substitute Joy Igbokwe helped Nigeria secure a convincing victory.
In the 16th minute, Amina Bello scored the opening goal after receiving a pass from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu. Okwuchukwu then turned goalscorer herself in the 28th minute, heading in a corner kick to double Nigeria’s lead.
Just before halftime, Okwuchukwu provided an assist to Flourish Sabastine, who converted it into a goal to give Nigeria a comfortable 3-0 advantage. Substitute Joy Igbokwe completed the rout with a goal in the added time of the first half.
The victory propelled the Falconets, as the Nigerian team is known, to the top of Group D with six points and a goal difference of plus three. Their next match in the Round of 16 will take place in Bogota on Thursday.
