Nigeria’s return to international beach soccer is expected to be marked by earning a continental ticket, as the Supersand Eagles only need a draw against Mauritania to secure a spot in this year’s Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations. In their last match against Mauritania, the Nigerian team showcased a determined performance, resulting in a hard-fought 5-4 victory. Goals from Emeka Ogbonna, Emmanuel Ohwoferia, Taiwo Adams, and Victor Tale contributed to their success.
The return leg will take place at the Beach Soccer Arena in Kaduna, scheduled to kick off at 5pm. The Confederation of African Football has appointed Mozambican officials to officiate the game, with Dique Salvador Muxanga as the referee, alongside Angelo Almeida Nguenha and Jonas Chochota Chochato as Referees 1 and 2, respectively. Angolan Eliano Domingos Tito Iacala will act as the timekeeper, while Adalberto Luis Fonseca Catambi from Sao Tome and Principe will serve as the commissioner. The match officials have already arrived in Kaduna.
Coach Abdullahi Isa, an experienced individual in Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations finals and FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Championships, has a squad of fit, battle-hardened, and high-spirited players to choose from, including Adams, Ohwoferia, Godwin Tale, Victor Tale, Egan-Osi Ekujimi, Chidozie Frank, Isah Arome, and Hassan Abdullahi.
A draw or victory on Saturday will secure Nigeria’s spot in the finals held in Egypt. Hosts Egypt, along with Morocco and Tanzania, have already qualified for the 8-team finals as their opponents Angola and Uganda withdrew from the qualifiers.
