The Dangote Refinery announced on Saturday that it has commenced test runs for the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol or fuel.
With a staggering production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the refinery is expected to begin full operations and distribute petrol by mid-September, following a series of delays.
Developed by Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual, the $20 billion facility has already produced diesel, aviation fuel, and other distilled fuels.

Initially planned for May 2024, the delivery of petrol was delayed due to challenges related to crude oil supply.
While there is optimism for a September launch, IIR Energy has cautioned about the possibility of further delays.
Once fully operational, the Dangote Refinery is set to revolutionize the fuel trade in Africa, significantly reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined products from Europe.
