“Selective Nim Fellows Awards Atako Shines Light On Deserving Nigerians”

Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, Receives Highest Award from Nigerian Institute of Management

Dr. Christiana Atako, President, and Chairman of the Council of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), has revealed that only deserving Nigerians are recognized with the Institute’s Fellows award each year.

During the recent Awards, Fellows, and Spouses Day Luncheon, Mr. Atako emphasized the significance of the event in the Institute’s calendar. She explained that it is a ceremony where qualified and deserving members are granted the highest and most prestigious professional membership grade of the Institute.

The event also serves as an opportunity for old Fellows to reconnect, socialize, and celebrate, while welcoming new Fellows into their community.

Since its introduction in February 1963, the tradition of upgrading members to Fellow status has been meticulous, ensuring that only those truly deserving of the award receive this honor on an annual basis.

Mrs. Atako highlighted that the upgraded Fellows, who possess valuable professional competencies, have been categorized into various Faculties such as Leadership and Governance, Technology and Communication, Education and Social Development, Finance, Accounts, and Management Audit, Planning Economics and Management, as well as Safety, Health, and Environment Management.

These Faculties are expected to identify and address challenges related to their disciplines, proposing studies in these areas and making policy recommendations to the government through the Institute’s public policy advocacy initiative. The new Fellows will be duly informed of their respective faculty, just like the existing Fellows.

Mrs. Atako encouraged the Fellows to continue contributing to the Institute’s knowledge base through the newly established Fellows Forum. This platform serves as a monthly discussion forum on contemporary matters pertaining to management, leadership, and governance, conducted via Zoom Meetings. She urged the Fellows to embrace this opportunity, as it aligns with the Council’s decision to establish Fellows Faculties.

Furthermore, Mrs. Atako extended her congratulations to the Institute’s elder statesmen and women who received the Life Membership award during the event. This accolade serves as an expression of appreciation for their unwavering support and dedication to the Institute over the years.

To qualify for the Life Membership award, recipients must have attained the age of 70, selflessly served the Institute and the nation, exhibited impeccable character, regularly fulfilled financial obligations to the Institute, and met other statutory obligations consistently. This recognition serves as an acknowledgment and appreciation for their continuous belief in and commitment to the Institute.
